These senior portraits were an opportunity to be creative. Each image has a custom, one-of-a-kind background. Danielle designed her own spray paint graffiti typeface and I created an environment where it exists. Or does it?

Beautiful ice makes the evening sparkle
I didn't want to miss the chance to shoot a few images of the layer of ice deposited by today's freezing rain storm, but didn't have the time to get out until this evening. It seems everything touched by the ice has a glimmer that reminds me a little of fireworks. While we were out I also captured a few images of my daughter as a perfect compliment to the beautiful scenery.

I'm a photographer, but my roots are definately in graphic design
Yes, this is a photography blog, but I also enjoy creating great designs. This identity graphic was produced for the Norwalk Middle School Sound Sensation Show Choir. It is their unified brand for the 2010 season and it was printed on the choir's traveling apparel. The plan for the brand is to assist in promoting strong team spirit among all of the choir's members. I hope it adds to their efforts to win a lot of trophies while they give it their all in competitions across central Iowa!

Christmas Gathering Family Portrait
Just before the gifts were in route for final delivery all of the grand kids gathered for a photo in front of a shooting gallery of cameras. I am quite sure that no one else captured an image that looks anything like this one. We all had a great time and enjoyed several Christmas celebrations. It was a fantastic season!

Dr. Dave Camwell - Assistant Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Simpson College
Considering the versatile possibilities of sound from Dave Camwell's saxophone and the promotional purpose for which these images were captured, I have made every effort to express a similar diversified visual essence to each frame. So, as you look over each of the images I hope you will think about a gritty, growling jazz saxophone solo or the smooth sound that develops as the trumpet and saxophone sections compliment each other in a great arrangement. Or maybe the intricate runs of a classical piece. If these thoughts cross your mind, I have achieved my goal. If you would like to know more about Dave or contact him about his music you will find more information at www.davecamwell.com and also at www.simpson.edu/music/faculty/camwell.html. Thank you Dave, I enjoyed working with you.

Dr. Jillian Camwell - Oboe and English Horn Musician
As we met for the first time before this photo shoot I was unfamiliar with Jillian's musical ability even though she is very well known for her musical prowess across much of North America and beyond. Since then I have had a few lucky chances to hear her perform, most recently at her Nov. 2009 recital and before that at Wicked the musical at the Des Moines Civic Center. If you would like to know more about her music and background, take a look at her Web site at http://www.jilliancamwell.com. Congratulations to Jill on her musical success and thanks to her for collaborating with me to create these beautiful images.

Camwell Family
One great, late autumn Saturday morning the Camwell family joined my daughter Maggie and me at a few downtown Des Moines area locations for a photo shoot. The timing of mid to late morning offered an opportunity for me to work in some natural light situations that weren't necessarily my favorite, but to my pleasure provided a warm, dynamic tone that I will be sure to capture again.

Gotta have more Epic Fusion
I wanted you to see a couple more images of the Simpson College Epic Fusion Saxophone Quartet. If you like the smooth sound of a sax, times four is even better!
This image was created for a promotional poster. It will be a great way for these musicians to connect with there audience.

Simpson College Epic Fusion Sax Quartet
I recently had the opportunity to photograph Paul, Stephanie, Natalie and Katherine who are all students at Simpson College. They deliver a great sound as they perform for a variety of audiences.
Thanks to Epic Fusion. I enjoyed the afternoon of photography. I hope you have a great tour next spring.

Welcome to my new blog.
OK, I'm just getting started with this new to me way of letting others know about my goals and what I've been up to. So if you are interested, become a follower or just take a look now and then to see if any thing sparks your curiosity or enthusiasm for eye pleasing imagery. I would like this to be a venue where I can share a little of what I see through the lens of my camera and discuss the possibilities of photography with others who might be looking for a photographer or where I might be able to get involved in a creative project in some other way. I enjoy the challenge of solving a creative or visual problem with a variety of purposes. If there is something which you have wanted to accomplish, but didn't have the tools or talent available, please contact me to discuss how I might be able to assist you. I'm also capable of helping you to get a project started from a marketing or creative assessment standpoint.
In addition I would be interested in photographing your next portrait, group, event or commercial project. So keep me in mind and thanks for stopping by.
